My Review

OVERALL RATING

Design: 5 stars for an attractive and easy to use design, but minus 2 stars for lack of innovation.

Features:  5 stars for all the features, but minus 1 star for bogging down the system with them.

Ease of Use:  4 stars for usability.  Easy to handle, but a bit large for my hand.  You can get used to it though.

Performance:  3 stars for the lack of balance between performance and battery life.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS OVERALL REVIEW IS BASED ON THE  PHONE AS A WHOLE AND NOT THE MOTOBLUR EXPERIENCE.

As a person who loves to customize everything, I don't have to think twice about rooting my device.  Fortunately, the developer base is not as scarce as Motorola's Citrus, but it is still disappointing to see that Motorola locked down the DROID 3 in such a way that makes it incredibly difficult to modify much of anything to make the device run better.  Cyanogenmod is still in beta for all versions of Android for the DROID 3.  Cyanogenmod is about as lean and mean as anyone can get as it is based off of AOSP, but with extra special tweaks added in, it is essentially even better than AOSP.  Disappointed about the dev base for this device, I've turned to the next best thing, other developers who are also releasing their own makes and models of the released Cyanogenmod base or MotoBlur base.  Needless to say, it's been difficult finding anything close to Cyanogenmod, but I have found something extremely close, Eclipse v3.0.
